Chapter 7 - Gary hated Samuel

Gary entered our lives two years after Dad died.
At first I liked him.
Seriously.
That is important.
He taught Ethan to throw a football.
Helped me practice driving.
Fixed things around our house.
Took Mom dancing.
He made her laugh again.
Then money entered conversations.
Gary owned a small commercial renovation company.
It was legitimate.
Sometimes successful.
Sometimes not.
He became interested in Bennett Home & Garden.
He told Mom:
“Your kids are sitting on a fortune they don’t understand.”
Mom answered:
“It’s theirs.”
Gary:
“I know. I’m talking about helping manage it.”
That phrase became common.
Helping manage.
Samuel hated hearing it.
He and Gary argued twice.
After the second argument, Samuel stopped visiting the house.
I thought:
Family drama.
