Chapter 13 - Presley talks about competition

Presley’s therapist never reported details to me.
Confidentiality.
Camille shared only what Presley authorized or what safety required.
One thing emerged:
Presley had heard Delphine compare the girls repeatedly.
Maribel:
Has a mansion.
Has a father who “says yes to everything.”
Will inherit enormous wealth.
Gets private school.
Gets horses? We don't need horse. Use art tutor.
Gets private art lessons.
Presley:
“Has to work for everything.”
Reality:
Presley also came from wealth.
But comparative resentment does not require poverty.
Delphine told her:
“Maribel has never had to compete.”
Presley internalized:
Make her compete.
At the party, the gift became a target because Maribel had already received dozens.
The shove came when Maribel tried to retrieve it.
Presley admitted:
“I wanted her scared.”
That was serious.
But she also said:
“I didn’t want her to drown.”
At eleven, both can be true.
Camille imposed consequences:
No parties for two months.
No unsupervised social media.
Counseling.
Restitution for destroyed scrapbook materials where possible.
