Chapter 21 - The federal case

Federal prosecutors charged Lucille with:

Witness tampering.

Obstruction-related conduct.

Threatening communications tied to Alessandra’s cooperation.

Defense argued:

She never physically reached Alessandra.

No assault occurred.

Several messages were emotional family language, not criminal threats.

Some counts weakened.

One was dismissed before trial.

The strongest evidence:

Her directions to locate Alessandra.

Her statement about making sure Alessandra stopped cooperating.

The gala threat.

Her concealment of the insurance clue.

Concealing knowledge alone was not necessarily criminal.

Using it to pressure a witness was different.

Lucille ultimately entered a plea to one witness-tampering count.

Sentence ran partly consecutive to state custody.

Total effective additional incarceration:

Twenty-eight months beyond the state portion after credits and structure.

No life sentence.

No melodrama.

Enough.
