Chapter 6 - Lucille is arrested
Police arrested Lucille that night after reviewing footage and witness statements.
Charges initially considered:
Child endangerment.
Reckless assault-related offenses.
Potential attempted aggravated assault.
The prosecutor did not immediately call it attempted murder.
Intent mattered.
Lucille claimed:
“I knew Dominic would catch the carriage.”
That was not comforting.
It was also not legally equivalent to:
I intended the baby to die.
She said it was:
“A test.”
Another terrible word.
Like pushing an infant toward stairs becomes acceptable if the adult believes another adult will intervene.
She was released later under strict conditions.
No contact with Clara.
No contact with me.
No travel without notice.
Then federal agents arrived.
