Chapter 10 - What Marietta had actually been doing

The central secret was not a hidden inheritance.

There was no trust removing Aubrielle.

No forged will.

No adoption challenge.

No custody plot.

Marietta had built a family-status fiction inside an informal reimbursement system and used it to redirect money, gifts, and social priority toward Claire.

The mechanism was simple enough to survive because nobody treated the program seriously.

First:

Eleanor funded up to $20,000 annually per grandchild for approved celebration expenses.

Second:

Marietta became the family coordinator.

Third:

She created two unofficial categories:

Direct family descendant

and

Discretionary supported child.

There was no policy basis for that distinction.

Fourth:

She classified Claire as direct family.

Aubrielle as discretionary.

Why?

Because Aubrielle had been born outside marriage and Samantha was dead.

That was Marietta’s prejudice.

Not law.

Fifth:

When Aubrielle’s celebration allocation was unused, Marietta submitted some Claire expenses against it.

Examples:

Dance costumes.

Birthday photography.

Jewelry.

A private tea party.

Sixth:

She redirected selected physical gifts bought through family funds to Claire.

Seventh:

She told relatives Eleanor approved.

Eighth:

She told Eleanor I had requested different treatment because Samantha’s estate handled Aubrielle’s needs.

Both false.

Ninth:

She repeatedly called Aubrielle a charity case in private so Claire and other relatives would view unequal treatment as normal.

Over three years:

Celebration expenses charged to Aubrielle’s allocation:

$51,840.

Auditors found approximately:

$24,600

clearly related to Claire or Marietta’s household.

Another:

$9,200

was ambiguous shared-family spending.

The rest legitimately benefited Aubrielle.

Not millions.

Still intentional.

Then why threaten me with being cut off?

Because Marietta’s real power came from convincing everyone she spoke for Eleanor.

She told me:

Mother will cut you off.

She told Eleanor:

Weston wants Aubrielle kept separate.

She told relatives:

Grandma considers Claire the primary granddaughter.

She told vendors:

All children’s purchases route through me.

She created authority from different lies told in different directions.

The livestream destroyed the method.

For once:

Eleanor heard Marietta directly.

I heard Marietta directly.

Guests heard her.

No interpretation.

May you like

No messenger.

And Marietta lost the space between people where she had been operating.
