Chapter 23 - Eleanor shuts down the old program

My mother eventually ended the Celebration Support Program entirely.

Not because it was inherently bad.

Because it had become symbolic.

Every reimbursement now carried suspicion.

Instead:

Eleanor gave each adult child and grandchild gifts directly when she wanted.

For larger educational or medical support:

Family office paid vendors after direct written approval.

No annual child cap.

No expectation.

No contest.

Marietta said:

“You destroyed something Dad built.”

Our father had not built it.

Eleanor had.

Memory again used as authority.

Eleanor replied:

“I am alive, Marietta. Stop telling me what dead people require.”

I nearly applauded.

Did not.

Aubrielle’s seventh birthday would be smaller.

At her request.

“Can we have pizza?”

“Yes.”

“Can Claire come?”

“If you want.”

“Can Marietta?”

Long pause.

May you like

“No.”

Answer respected.
