Chapter 19 - The mixed verdict

Marietta was convicted of:

Two counts of false reimbursement submission.

One count of obtaining funds by false representation.

She was acquitted of:

One duplicate-reimbursement count where evidence did not prove she knew accounting had already processed the first payment.

She was also acquitted of a broader scheme count covering all three years because the program’s informality created reasonable doubt about some transactions.

Mixed verdict.

No declaration that every gift she ever gave Claire was stolen.

Then sentencing delayed.

Civil accounting still active.

My mother did not attend verdict.

She watched no livestream this time.

She told me:

“I have watched enough family trials on screens.”

Fair.
