Chapter 9 - The Decrypted Truth

An hour later, the rain had cleared completely, giving way to a brilliant, golden sunrise over Chicago.

Inside the secure master panic room beneath the estate, the heavy titanium door unlatched with a loud pneumatic hiss, swinging open slowly.

Clara stood near the entrance, holding Matteo’s hand tightly.

Vincent walked into the room. He had changed into a clean black dress shirt and dark trousers, his thick hair neatly combed, his light stubble groomed. He looked taller, handsomer, and more at peace than he had in years.

When Matteo saw his father, a bright smile lit up the eight-year-old boy's face.

"Dad!" Matteo called out, taking two small, independent steps forward without his parallel bars, using only his own strength.

Vincent’s eyes widened in shock. He dropped to his knees on the carpet, opening his broad arms as Matteo took a third step and fell safely into his father's powerful embrace.

Vincent held his son tightly, kissing the top of his head, tears of pure joy spilling down his cheeks. "You walked, Matteo... you walked to me."

"Clara said I could do it," Matteo whispered, hugging his father's neck.

Vincent looked up from his son, his gray-blue eyes locking onto Clara, who stood watching them with tears streaming down her gentle face.

Vincent stood up, stepped toward Clara, and pulled her into his arms, wrapping his broad, warm frame around her in a fierce, emotional hug. Clara wrapped her arms around his waist, resting her cheek against his broad chest, feeling the steady, strong rhythm of his heart.

"It's over, Clara," Vincent whispered into her dark-brown wavy hair. "They're gone. My family is safe."

"I know, Vincent," Clara replied softly, looking up into his intense eyes.

Vincent leaned down, his lips meeting hers in a soft, passionate kiss that sealed the deep, unspoken love that had grown between them through the dark storm.

Later that afternoon, the sun flooded through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the main living room.

Matteo sat on the soft rug, playing with a wooden train set, his laughter filling the grand house once more.

Vincent sat on the leather sofa beside Clara, holding a glass of wine, their fingers intertwined. Dominic stood by the doorway, a rare, genuine smile touching his disciplined face as he watched the family.

"Federal prosecutors have officially seized all assets belonging to Julian and the Sterling Syndicate, Boss," Dominic reported smoothly. "The Rossi empire is fifty percent larger today, and completely secure."

Vincent looked at Clara, then at his son playing on the rug. "The empire doesn't matter, Dominic. This room is everything that matters."
