Chapter 18 - THE MARRIAGE

Vanessa and I reconciled slowly.

Not because Florence forgave.

Not because the children forgot.

Because Vanessa changed behavior over time and I decided the marriage still contained something worth rebuilding.

Conditions were practical.

Separate finances for her professional projects.

No informal household authority through me.

No using the twins in philanthropic materials without explicit consent when they were old enough and parental approval while young.

Couples counseling.

Continued individual therapy.

No expectation Florence would resume closeness.

Then my part.

I stopped treating work intensity as evidence I was providing enough.

A man can pay for twenty staff and still fail to know whether his children ate.

That sentence stayed with me.

I changed my schedule.

Not permanently sitting at home.

Presence with awareness.

There is a difference.
