Chapter 26 - OWEN BECOMES A FATHER
Owen became a father first.
A boy named Lucas.
When Lucas was three, he began helping clear plastic plates after dinner.
My body reacted.
Owen saw.
“Dad.”
“I know.”
“He wants to help.”
“I know.”
Lucas carried one plate.
Dropped it.
Plastic.
No break.
Everyone laughed.
Then Owen said:
“You’re done if you want.”
Lucas said:
“More.”
Choice.
He carried another.
Then abandoned the task midway because a toy truck was more important.
