Chapter 26 - The last meeting at eight

Six months after the original meeting, another family office session began at eight.
Same library.
Different agenda.
Bellacourt settlement complete.
Maison suspension finalized.
Household governance revised.
Florence civil claims settled.
Vanessa divorce settlement awaiting final court signature.
Criminal restitution paid on schedule.
Twins healthy.
Then household budget report.
New management under directly employed professional household director:
Food spending:
Down 19% from old baseline.
Waste:
Down 41%.
No missed meals.
Staff hours:
Down 8% through scheduling.
No unpaid family labor.
Total net savings:
Substantial.
No efficiency bonus.
The family had needed reform.
Vanessa had weaponized a real problem.
That made the ending less comfortable.
Then Samuel handed me final divorce decree notice.
Signed.
Marriage over.
Vanessa retained her own assets.
Received marital allocations.
No stake in Moretti Family Office.
No household role.
Probation continued.
No contact with twins during term absent consent.
Then Florence entered.
No apron.
Dark blue dress.
Pearls.
She sat at table.
Administrator asked:
“Mrs. Moretti, do you approve household policy changes?”
Florence smiled.
“I’ll read every page first.”
Everyone laughed.
She did.
Twenty-two pages.
Page numbers.
Document title on every page.
Signature only after complete packet.
Then she signed.
No one moved the page.
No one scanned it into something else.
No hidden packet.
May you like
Just consent.
The last open governance issue closed that night.
