Chapter 11 - The Archive Marina Couldn’t Burn

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The state archive opened at eight the next morning.
By 8:17, Jonathan had certified copies.
Original newborn registration.
Twin delivery acknowledgment.
Gabriel’s transfer authorization.
A guardianship form.
And the waiver supposedly signed by Victor.
The signatures were sent for forensic review.
Victor’s was fake.
Elena’s was fake.
Marina’s was real.
Richard Sloan had notarized both false documents.
Detective Cole called.
“We have Sloan.”
“Marina?”
“Not yet.”
Sloan had surrendered after realizing the warehouse contained nothing capable of saving him.
Within hours, his attorney began discussing cooperation.
He told investigators Marina designed the plan months before Elena gave birth.
She discovered the twin pregnancy through a hospital foundation contact.
She researched the Bellini trust.
Then she realized twins created a rare opportunity.
If one child appeared dead and the other child’s rights were suspended, she could control both sides of the trust through forged documents.
“But why?” Victor asked.
Money alone seemed too small for the cruelty involved.
Sloan’s answer surprised him.
“Your brother.”
Victor went silent.
Vincent Bellini.
Victor’s younger brother had died three years earlier.
Marina had been in love with him.
Not openly.
Not officially.
But deeply.
Vincent never returned those feelings.
Instead, he remained loyal to Victor and supported Elena.
After Vincent died, Marina’s grief hardened into resentment.
She convinced herself the Bellini family had denied her the place she deserved.
Then she began planning to acquire it legally.
Or make it look legal.
Victor sat with that information.
It explained obsession.
Not cruelty.
Nothing could explain that away.
Sloan continued.
Marina believed marrying Victor would complete the transformation.
From outsider.
To Mrs. Bellini.
To trustee.
To controller of the family legacy.
“She never wanted you,” Sloan said.
“She wanted your name.”
Victor almost smiled.
“That was obvious by Christmas.”
Police eventually located Marina at a private lakeside property owned by a shell company.
She surrendered without violence.
No dramatic escape.
No final chase.
Just a woman in an expensive coat realizing the doors had closed.
At the police station, Marina requested one conversation with Victor.
He refused.
Then she changed the request.
She wanted to see Rose.
Victor’s answer came instantly.
“No.”
“She’s going to be my stepdaughter.”
“There is no wedding.”
Silence.
Then Marina laughed bitterly.
“You think that ends this?”
Victor looked through the interview-room glass.
“Yes.”
Marina leaned closer.
“You still don’t know what Elena did before she died.”
Victor’s expression changed.
“What?”
Marina smiled.
“She changed the trust herself.”
Jonathan looked up sharply.
Because if Marina was telling the truth, Elena had made one final legal move after discovering someone was targeting her babies.

👉 Marina’s financial plan was collapsing, but Elena may have left behind a last-minute document that could change who controlled Rose and Gabriel’s future forever.
