Chapter 12 - Elena’s Last Amendment

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The document was found in the safest place possible.
Not Victor’s mansion.
Not Saint Matthew’s.
Not Marina’s files.
Elena had sent it to her own attorney.
A woman named Sarah Whitman.
Sarah had retired two years earlier.
When Jonathan called, she remembered Elena immediately.
“She was terrified.”
Victor listened on speaker.
“Of Marina?”
“She never gave me the name.”
Sarah explained that Elena contacted her three weeks before delivery.
Someone had been asking questions about the twins.
About trust rights.
About guardianship.
Elena did not know how much danger existed.
But she wanted one thing made clear.
“No member of Victor’s family, household, romantic partners, or business associates should ever independently control the children’s assets.”
Victor almost laughed.
Elena knew his world.
Sarah prepared an amendment.
It created an independent children’s trust.
Any Bellini assets passing to Rose or Gabriel would be supervised by three parties:
Victor.
An independent professional trustee.
And, while living, Elena.
If Elena died, her seat would pass to an independent retired judge.
Not Marina.
Not any future spouse.
Not another Bellini.
The document had been properly signed and notarized.
Why had nobody seen it?
Because it only activated once paternity and the children’s beneficiary status were formally confirmed.
Gabriel had been hidden.
Rose’s rights had been fraudulently suspended.
The trigger never occurred.
Until now.
Jonathan filed the amendment.
The trust bank authenticated it.
Marina’s entire theory of control disintegrated.
Even if she had married Victor.
Even if her forged guardianship had survived.
Even if Gabriel had been revealed exactly when she planned.
She still could not legally control their inheritance.
Victor stared at Elena’s signature.
“She beat Marina before Marina even started.”
Sarah corrected him.
“No.”
Victor looked at her.
“Elena protected her children. She wasn’t fighting anyone.”
That distinction stayed with him.
Victor had spent much of his life seeing protection as defeating enemies.
Elena saw it differently.
Protection meant building something the enemy couldn’t enter.
That evening, Victor sat between two cribs.
Rose asleep on one side.
Gabriel on the other.
Rebecca had agreed to remain involved during the transition.
Victor would not simply rip Gabriel away from the only caregiver he remembered.
He had learned something important.
Being a father did not mean possessing a child.
It meant making the child feel safe enough to trust you.
Gabriel stirred.
Victor lifted him.
The baby settled against his chest.
Then Rose woke and immediately demanded equal attention with an indignant squeal.
Victor looked between them.
“Your mother planned this.”
Two babies stared back.
Victor smiled.
Then Jonathan entered carrying another envelope.
“What now?”
“Elena left a letter with the amendment.”
Victor stopped.
“For me?”
Jonathan nodded.
“And she instructed Sarah not to release it until both children were legally safe.”
Victor looked at Rose.
Then Gabriel.
Both were safe.
For the first time, Elena’s condition had finally been met.

👉 Victor had recovered both of his children—but only now was he allowed to read the final words their mother had left specifically for him.
