Chapter 16 - The Anonymous Complaints

Our team obtained permission to review de-identified themes from the earlier complaints.

One described food being taken.

Another described recruits being forced to do unofficial exercises late at night.

That allegation was not fully substantiated against Jake.

A third described:

“a group that decides who counts.”

That phrase captured the climate better than legal categories.

Who gets invited.

Who gets mocked.

Who gets help studying.

Who gets ignored.

Formal training hierarchy is visible.

Unofficial social hierarchy can become stronger because nobody admits it exists.

Our evaluation expanded beyond Jake and Ethan.

That was uncomfortable for command leadership.

Good.

If one incident becomes the entire explanation, institutions get to say:

We found the bad apple.

Then stop looking at the barrel.
