Jake eventually completed remedial requirements and continued training.
The command could have separated him if his behavior continued.
It did not.
There were no further substantiated incidents of hazing or coercion.
That mattered.
Consequences should leave room for change where safety and standards permit.
His record was affected.
Some opportunities closed temporarily.
He had to rebuild trust.
That is what accountability often looks like.
Not total destruction.
Not no consequence.
Restricted opportunity plus evidence required to earn more.
Before leaving the command, he sent a short email through proper channels.
Chief Mitchell,
I used to think authority meant being the person nobody could embarrass.
I understand now that I was trying to create authority by embarrassing other people.
I am working on it.
