Chapter 14 - Why Delphine hated Rosie

Rosie was not Delphine’s financial enemy.

She was a psychological one.

Vivienne had begun asking to see her daughter.

Not me.

Rosie.

Three months before the hotel party, North Vale therapist documented:

Patient expresses increasing desire to reestablish contact with minor daughter.

Then:

Patient questions longstanding warnings regarding family safety.

Delphine learned through payment correspondence that Vivienne wanted independent legal advice.

If Vivienne obtained a lawyer:

The concealment would unravel.

So Delphine visited.

Vivienne told her:

“I want Rosie to know I didn’t abandon her.”

Delphine answered:

“You did abandon her.”

Vivienne reportedly cried for nearly an hour afterward.

Then the hotel party.

Delphine saw Rosie.

Same eyes.

Same expression.

Living proof that the secret could not remain abstract.

And Delphine said:

“This family doesn’t need a daughter.”

Because Rosie was the person most likely to pull Vivienne back toward us.
