Chapter 2 - What everyone believed happened to Vivienne

My wife was Vivienne Graves.

Thirty-five when she disappeared.

Beautiful.

Sharp.

Difficult to intimidate.

She ran compliance and licensing for several luxury hotels I owned legitimately through Graves Hospitality Group.

Four years earlier, she disappeared during a winter drive from Boston to a property in Vermont.

Her SUV was found after a storm near a river access road.

Driver door open.

Blood on the seat.

Her coat caught downstream.

Phone destroyed.

No body.

Search teams worked for weeks.

The river was dangerous.

Temperatures below freezing.

Eventually investigators concluded she had likely entered the water after an accident or assault.

But there was never certainty.

Legally, she remained missing for a long time.

Emotionally, everyone treated her as dead.

Especially me.

Rosie was four then.

For two years she asked:

“When is Mommy coming home?”

May you like

Then she stopped.

That was worse.
