Chapter 25 - Vivienne learns what I became

During four years without her, I had changed.
Not enough.
I still controlled businesses that mixed legitimate commerce with people I should have cut loose.
Vivienne asked:
“If I come back into Rosie’s life, does that mean coming back into your world?”
“No.”
“What does that mean?”
“I’m dismantling parts of it.”
She looked skeptical.
Correct reaction.
So I did it through lawyers and accountants, not speeches.
Sold two nightlife interests.
Closed a cash-heavy security company.
Removed family members from procurement.
Entered compliance agreements where required.
Cooperated with investigations into certain historical conduct.
It cost:
Money.
Influence.
May you like
Relationships.
That made the change more believable.
