Chapter 9 - The untouched glass went to a laboratory

Security sealed:
The glass.
My plate.
Nearby utensils.
Catering samples.
Relevant containers.
Police became involved after my attorney advised that suspected deliberate contamination required more than internal investigation.
I went to a hospital that evening.
Blood.
Urine.
Medical examination.
Doctors found no immediate life-threatening poisoning.
That mattered.
Lily had used the sign she knew for poison.
She was four.
She did not mean a forensic toxicology category.
She meant:
Vanessa put something in Daddy’s food that should not be there.
Laboratory testing later found a prescription compound in my system that had never been prescribed to me.
I will not romanticize the detail.
It was a medication capable, when misused, of causing serious neurological and auditory side effects in some people.
Including:
Tinnitus.
Dizziness.
Confusion.
Changes in auditory perception.
The amount detected was not consistent with ordinary accidental exposure.

Then the glass tested positive too.
Vanessa stopped calling it stress.
