Chapter 11

Ryan stood like a statue in the center of the expensive marble bathroom, his eyes as cold and sharp as a scalpel. His hand gripped the heavy steel of the pistol tucked into his waistband, feeling the familiar contours of the weapon that had saved his life countless times. Marcus, the man hailed as the right-hand of the legendary mafia boss, was the venomous snake calling from the other side of the heavy oak doors. "Boss? Are you in there?" Marcus’s gruff voice echoed, accompanied by a forceful, urgent knocking. The thick wood rattled under the impact.

Emily held Sarah tightly, the pristine white towel wrapping the frail, trembling body of the little girl who bore a coordinate tattoo on her back. The highly perceptive woman’s face was pale with terror. She understood her husband’s bloody underworld far too well to know what it meant when he drew his weapon. It was never a warning; it was a death sentence. "Ryan..." Emily whispered, her voice choking in her throat from absolute fear.

Ryan raised a single finger to his lips, demanding absolute silence. He took long, steady strides toward the door. "What is the situation, Marcus?" Ryan called out, forcing his deep voice to remain as calm and authoritative as usual.

"The security grid just flagged an intrusion in the south wing, boss. The guards found strange tracks. I need you out here right now," Marcus replied. But Ryan’s hyper-tuned hearing caught a microscopic sound beneath the lie: the faint, metallic click of a pistol’s safety being disengaged. He knew his secret was out the moment Sarah mentioned "Uncle Marcus" delivering her food.

Ryan turned back, his eyes flashing with lethal determination. He pointed toward the wooden paneling behind the built-in wardrobe—the concealed entrance to a titanium-reinforced panic room. Emily understood instantly. She scooped Sarah up and grabbed little Lily’s hand, rushing into the dark alcove. As the hidden wall slid shut, sealing his family away safely, Ryan exhaled. The ruthless kingpin had fully returned. "I am opening the door," he announced coldly.
