Chapter 23

The heavy blast doors of the main fabrication warehouse buckled inward as Victor detonated a shaped breaching charge. The shockwave blew clouds of drywall dust and acrid cordite into the cavernous hall, exposing the heart of the Falcone redoubt.

Inside, beneath flickering amber emergency lights, Enzo Falcone stood behind an improvised barricade of reinforced engine blocks and sandbags. Ten heavily armored bodyguards surrounded him, their rifles raised in a desperate defensive fan.

"Ryan!" Enzo roared, his gravelly voice cracking across the echoing rafters. "You think you can bury us? You took our legacy, our bloodline, our city! But you couldn't save your precious Maria, could you?"

From the pitch-black shadows of the upper gantry, a voice answered—low, resonant, and carrying the chilling calm of an executioner. "Maria died with more honor than your entire bloodline ever possessed, Enzo. You hid behind a six-year-old child. You starved my daughter in a crawlspace. You are not men. You are vermin waiting to be scrubbed."

"Light up the ceiling!" Enzo screamed.

A wall of automatic gunfire erupted toward the catwalks, wood and steel splintering in a deafening crescendo. But Ryan was already in motion. Dropping through an industrial access hatch, he descended upon the barricade from the rear, falling like a thunderbolt.

He landed boots-first onto the back of a kneeling rifleman, crushing the man’s spine into the concrete. Pivoting instantly, Ryan caught the barrel of an approaching shotgun, diverted the blast into the ceiling, and drove his combat blade straight through the attacker’s throat. Using the dying man as a ballistic shield, he drew his sidearm with his right hand, firing with pinpoint lethality into the remaining guards.

The slaughter was clinical, relentless, and over in less than ninety seconds. Victor’s assault squad breached from the flank, putting down the last two mercenaries with controlled bursts.

Enzo scrambled backward across the blood-slick floor, his assault rifle jamming as he frantically pulled the charging handle. He threw the weapon aside, drawing a revolver with a trembling hand, but before his finger reached the trigger, Ryan’s boot came down on his wrist with bone-shattering force.

Enzo shrieked as his bones splintered. Ryan grabbed the front of Enzo’s leather jacket, hauling the broken mobster off his feet and slamming him against a structural steel beam.

"Look at me," Ryan commanded, his voice barely above a whisper, yet vibrating with terrifying power. "Look at my eyes."
