Chapter 17

In the pitch-black chaos of the bar, the only illumination came from the faint moonlight filtering through the shattered windows. The cartel gunmen shouted frantically in Spanish, swinging their rifle barrels blindly into the darkness.
Then, a sickening, wet crunch echoed from the center of the room.
Ryan peered over the edge of the overturned table. A shadow—fast, silent, and incredibly lethal—dropped from the ceiling ventilation shaft directly behind the lead gunman. There was no muzzle flash, no battle cry. A suppressed pistol coughed twice in rapid succession. Thwip. Thwip.
Two mercenaries collapsed instantly to the floor, dead before their bodies hit the glass.
The remaining four gunmen panicked, opening fire wildly into the dark. But the shadow was already gone, moving with the ultra-realistic, analytical precision of a predator. Ryan watched in sheer, uncomprehending disbelief as the figure systematically dismantled the heavily armed squad.
A combat knife flashed in the moonlight, severing the tactical vest straps of the third gunman before a brutal, agonizing strike broke his neck. The fourth and fifth men were neutralized with blinding speed and flawless precision, their bodies hitting the floor in perfect synchronization.
The final gunman backed toward the exit, whimpering in terror. The shadow stepped out from behind a wooden pillar, stepping smoothly into a shaft of moonlight.
She raised her suppressed pistol with quiet, terrifying power. Thwip. The final cartel member dropped.

The silence that followed was profound and agonizing. The emergency backup lights slowly flickered to life, bathing the ruined bar in a dim, red glow. Ryan slowly stood up, brushing the glass from his dress whites. He stared at the center of the room, his heart hammering wildly against his ribs.
Standing amidst the carnage, her breathing perfectly controlled, was the woman his family had dismissed as a tired office clerk.
