Chapter 19

The distant wail of military police sirens began to echo over the crash of the Pacific waves. The Quick Reaction Force was finally arriving, but Emily could not be found surrounded by civilian casualties and cartel corpses. Her existence was a classified secret that admirals bled to protect.
"Vanguard, QRF is on site. Extraction is holding at the rooftop LZ," Commander Hayes’s voice crackled from the narrow silver watch strapped to her wrist.
"Copy that, Nathaniel," Emily replied smoothly.
She turned away from her brother, walking toward the shattered back doors of the bar. Ryan watched her go, a sudden, desperate realization washing over him. He had spent his entire life trying to be the absolute pride of his family, completely unaware that the truest hero of the Carter bloodline would never receive a parade or a single round of applause.
"Will I see you again?" Ryan called out, his voice echoing over the ocean breeze.
Emily paused at the doorway. The cinematic lighting from the approaching police cruisers cast stark, dramatic shadows across her face. She looked over her shoulder, her posture radiating a quiet, terrifying power.

"I am always watching, Ryan," Emily promised softly. "Stay out of the sightlines."
She vanished into the darkness just as a black, unmarked stealth helicopter descended upon the roof, its rotors completely silent. Ryan stood amidst the wreckage, his teammates patting his shoulders in silent reverence. The mother sitting in her hotel room, likely weeping in embarrassment over the ceremony, would never know the truth of this night. Ryan touched his Trident, finally understanding the profound, absolute weight of the brotherhood he had just joined.
