Chapter 10 - the golden horizon

Six months later, a brilliant summer sun shone warm and clear over the manicured lawns of the Moretti estate.
The dark clouds that had hung over the family were completely gone. The Valenti syndicate had been dismantled, the bakery on Fifth Street had been expanded into a statewide charitable foundation funding single mothers, and peace had returned to Lake Shore Drive.
A grand outdoor celebration was underway on the stone terrace overlooking Lake Michigan. White silk canopies, fresh flowers, and classical music filled the air as Chicago’s top business leaders and family allies gathered to celebrate Adrien and Claire’s wedding.
Claire stood near the stone balustrade wearing a breathtaking white lace bridal gown, her brown hair styled in soft curls, her fair skin glowing radiantly in the sunlight.
Standing beside her in a custom black tuxedo was Adrien, looking impossibly handsome, his dark eyes filled with absolute, unshakeable love as he held her hand.
Down on the sunny lawn, the identical triplets—Lily, Sophie, and Emma—ran happily in matching yellow flower-girl dresses, their pastel ribbons catching the summer breeze as they played with Kaiser, the German Shepherd.
Don Carmine stepped up to the couple, holding a glass of champagne. “To Don Adrien and Lady Claire... and the three little princesses who united this family.”
The guests raised their glasses, cheering merrily.
Suddenly, Marcus walked out onto the stone terrace, carrying a thick black leather envelope stamped with a heavy red wax seal—a crest depicting a golden lion holding a broken crown.
Marcus handed the envelope to Adrien, his expression calm but focused. “Boss. A private courier just brought this from the airport. It came directly from the High Council in Rome.”
Adrien broke the heavy wax seal and pulled out a single sheet of heavy parchment written in fine gold Italian calligraphy.
He read the first two lines, a quiet, subtle smile touching his sharp features as he looked at Claire.
Written on the parchment were only two sentences:
To Don Adrien Moretti: The debt of Chicago is settled. But your late grandfather's secret estate in Tuscany has just been unlocked by your three daughters' bloodline.
Claire looked at Adrien, her brown eyes sparkling with curiosity and happiness. “Adrien? What is it?”

Adrien slowly folded the parchment, slipped it into his tuxedo pocket, and wrapped his broad arm around Claire’s waist, looking out toward the sparkling blue ocean horizon.
“It seems our story is just getting started, my love,” Adrien whispered softly into the warm summer breeze, pulling his wife and three daughters close as the afternoon sun bathed them in golden light.
