Chapter 19 - Vivian’s Case

The criminal case involving Vivian was narrow.
As it should be.
Video from the ballroom and several witnesses established:
She deliberately struck Isabella’s hand with the riding crop.
The strike left bruising but no fracture.
She raised it again.
I stopped the second swing.
Prosecutors considered whether the crop constituted a dangerous weapon under the circumstances.
Ultimately the case resolved more simply.
Vivian pleaded to misdemeanor assault and battery.
Why no felony?
Minor injury.
Single completed strike.
No prior record.
No ongoing physical attack.
Sentence:
Two years probation.
Anger-management counseling.
One hundred hours community service.
No contact with Isabella except through counsel where necessary.
Restitution for medical examination and lost temporary wages.
No jail.
Some people in my family were furious.
“She beat your sister with a whip.”
No.
One strike with a riding crop.
Words matter.
Exaggeration weakens accountability.
Isabella filed a civil claim separately.
Employment-related humiliation.
Assault.
Emotional distress.
It settled for $165,000 including legal fees and documented loss.
Not millions.
Vivian could afford it.
It still mattered.
The false-imprisonment issue involving my security team was resolved in the same broader settlement environment.
My security company and I paid a modest confidential amount without admission.
I also changed event-security protocol.
Private security can protect property and people.
It cannot become family detention simply because Vincent Moretti is angry.
That lesson cost money.
Worth it.
Vivian’s engagement ring?
She kept it after we agreed not to litigate.
I did not want it.
No ring thrown into ocean.
No diamond smashed.
An object.
Relationship over.
May you like
Done.
