Chapter 22 - Thomasin’s Letter

Thomasin waited longer.
Almost two years.
She requested through Miriam.
Lowri was seven.
She remembered Thomasin clearly.
Not only reunion.
Zoo.
Pancakes.
A Christmas gift.
Reading bedtime stories.
Also:
photos disappearing.
Album tearing.
People are multiple.
Thomasin wrote:
Lowri,
I tore your album because I was jealous of a dead person.
Direct.
I had never seen an adult write something that plainly.
Then:
That jealousy was mine. You did not cause it.
I removed some photographs of your mother because I told myself it was helping you move forward.
I did not ask you.
There.
I also told you that talking about your mother could make people who were still here feel bad.
That was unfair.
Then:
You are allowed to remember your mother as much or as little as feels right to you.
Good.
Then:
I cared about you, but sometimes I treated your love for Celia like there was less room left for me.
That was my mistake.
No request to forgive.
No request to meet.
Lowri listened.
Then:
“Did she love Daddy?”
“Yes.”
“Do you love?”
“Not like that anymore.”
“Because album?”
“More than one reason.”
She nodded.
“Can keep?”
“Yes.”
She kept that letter.
Interesting.
Why?
“I like she says jealous.”
