Chapter 11 - The Family Message I Should Not Have Sent

My major mistake came after Eudora’s mediation.
I was furious.
Again.
I sent a message to the Alden family group.
I regret this.
At the time it felt like transparency.
For years Mom and Garrett have known Sorrel’s biological father and have used that secret to exclude him. Garrett is his biological father. Sorrel remains my son. Do not contact either child about this.
Send.
Thirty-two recipients.
I stared at screen.
Then horror.
What had I just done?
Dana called within ninety seconds.
“What the hell?”
“I know.”
“Owen’s aunt is in that chat.”
“I know.”
“His grandmother on my side got forwarded screenshot already.”
“I know.”
“You promised.”
“I know.”
That phrase now belonged to me.
Damage moved fast.
One relative called Garrett.
Another called Dana.
Someone texted:
Is this why Bram and Rowan separated?
Wrong timeline.
A cousin sent sympathy to me.
Another:
So Garrett cheated?
No.
Complexity flattened instantly.
Meredith called.
“You disclosed a minor child’s paternity to thirty-two people?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Anger.”
“Delete does not retrieve screenshots.”
“I know.”
“Stop saying you know and act like it.”
Good.
I sent correction:
I disclosed private information about Sorrel and Owen in anger. That was wrong. Do not forward, discuss with children, or speculate about Rowan, Dana, Garrett, or timelines. Both marriages were separated during the adult relationship in question. I am asking everyone to protect the children’s privacy.
Better.
Too late.
Then I apologized to Dana.
Direct.
No excuse.
To Garrett too.
He said:
“You wanted me exposed.”
“Yes.”
“And you exposed my son.”
There.
Owen.
Not just Garrett.
That was the lesson.
Revenge through truth can still misuse children.
I had done what I accused my family of doing:
used Sorrel’s identity to punish an adult.
Different direction.
Same child in middle.
I started individual therapy again.
Not because court.
May you like
Because I needed somewhere to put anger that was not family chat.
