Chapter 13 - Garrett Meets Sorrel With the Truth

Garrett requested contact after Sorrel knew.
I did not decide alone.
Sorrel said:
“Maybe.”
Dr. Morris recommended brief.
Neutral.
No grand emotional claim.
Garrett entered carrying nothing.
Good.
No gift.
No attempt to buy moment.
Sorrel sat beside me.
Garrett said:
“Hi.”
“Hi.”
Silence.
Then Sorrel:
“You’re body dad.”
Garrett nearly broke.
“Yes.”
“Why not tell?”
There is no age-perfect answer.
Garrett said:
“I was scared and made a bad choice.”
“Scared me?”
“No. Scared of grown-up problems.”
“Why Grandma say I not blood?”
Garrett looked at floor.
“Because we were trying to hide something, and that was wrong.”
“Am I blood?”
“Yes.”
Sorrel frowned.
“Dad says blood not most important.”
I looked at him.
Apparently he listened.
Garrett said:
“He’s right.”
Then:
“Are you my dad?”
Sorrel asked.
Garrett took time.
“Bramwell is your dad. I’m your biological father and your uncle in the family you’ve always known.”
Confusing.
Accurate.
Sorrel said:
“That weird.”
“Yes.”
Then he asked:
“Do you like dinosaurs?”
Garrett laughed through tears.
“Yes.”
“Favorite?”
“Triceratops.”
Sorrel stared.
“Wrong.”
Meeting ended after twenty minutes.
No hug.
No instant bond.
Garrett left.
Sorrel asked:
“Can he come next time?”
“Do you want?”
“Maybe.”
May you like
Enough.
