Chapter 11

The shattering of the heavy oak doors sent a shockwave of splintered wood and chaotic noise through the dimly lit penthouse. The tactical red lights washed over the imposing figure of Victor Vance, Anthony DeLuca’s personal head of security. Vance was a man built like a concrete pillar, his dark suit straining against his massive frame, a suppressed submachine gun gripped tightly in his hands. Behind him, a dozen armed men spilled into the luxurious foyer, their boots crushing the expensive hardwood.
Michael stood his ground in the center of the living room, his pale-blue dress shirt stark against the crimson lighting. He did not flinch. The billionaire businessman had seamlessly transitioned into a terrifyingly lethal protector, his weapon raised and aimed directly at Vance’s chest. To his left, Marcus held his position near the entryway, his suppressed weapon tracking the encroaching mercenaries with military precision.
"Stand down, Michael," Vance barked, his voice a harsh, gravelly rasp that barely penetrated the ringing silence of the breach. "Anthony gave the order. We are here for the girl. Make this easy, and no one has to bleed on your expensive rugs."
"If you take one more step into my home, Vance, I will put a bullet through your throat," Michael promised, his deep voice vibrating with a lethal, unyielding certainty.
Vance sneered, raising his weapon slightly. "You are outnumbered, DeLuca. Your father filed an emergency psychiatric hold on you ten minutes ago. We are legally authorized to secure the child."
"Fraudulent paperwork won't stop a hollow-point," Marcus interjected coldly, stepping slightly forward to draw the firing line away from Michael.
In the suffocating tension, the faint, muffled sound of a distant police siren echoed up from the Chicago streets far below. David, cowering behind the massive marble kitchen island, clutched his briefcase to his chest, his eyes wide with absolute terror.
"You have three seconds to leave," Michael warned, his intense eyes locking onto Vance. "One."

Vance didn't wait for two. He signaled his men with a sharp jerk of his chin.
The penthouse erupted into deafening violence.
