Chapter 18

In the boardroom of the DeLuca empire in Chicago, the atmosphere was triumphant. Anthony DeLuca stood at the head of the massive mahogany table, his silver hair and deeply lined face projecting a stern, intimidating stare. He wore a crisp white dress shirt and a burgundy tie, basking in the glow of his impending victory.

Carmen sat to his right, her cruel, elegant features set in a smug, controlling smile. She had successfully whipped the board members into line. The vote to remove Michael as CEO was unanimous.

"My son's tragic mental breakdown has forced our hand," Anthony addressed the board, his voice flat and heavily laced with a toxic obsession with family legacy. "He has kidnapped a child and fled the country. But the DeLuca empire remains strong. As Chairman, I will resume executive control and guide us through this turbulent PR nightmare."

The board members nodded in solemn agreement, completely unaware of the devastating reality hurtling toward them.

Suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the boardroom burst open. The Chief Financial Officer, a man usually known for his calm demeanor, rushed in, his face ghostly pale. He clutched a tablet, his hands shaking violently.

"Anthony," the CFO gasped, completely abandoning protocol. "The offshore accounts... they are gone."

Anthony frowned, his authoritative expression faltering slightly. "What are you talking about? Be specific."

"The Elena Trust," the CFO stammered, holding up the tablet. "The Swiss Banking Authority just executed a hostile severance. Two billion dollars was just pulled from our collateral ledgers. The holding company is entirely exposed. The banks are issuing immediate margin calls. We are defaulting on every major loan."

Carmen stood up, her pearl jewelry clattering softly against her chest. "That is impossible! Anthony is the overseer of that trust! They cannot move that money without his authorization!"

"They can if the original adoption was fraudulent!" the CFO shouted, sheer panic taking over. "Michael filed a certified DNA test in Geneva. He is the biological father. He just legally seized the trust and financially decapitated this entire company."

The boardroom erupted into chaos. The board members who had just voted to support Anthony suddenly realized their shares were worthless. They had backed a sinking ship.

Anthony DeLuca collapsed into his leather chair, the arrogant composure completely vanishing. His hands trembled. He looked at his wife, the cruel society matriarch, and saw his own naked fear reflected in her eyes. Michael had kept his promise. He had stripped them of their title, frozen their assets, and left them with nothing.
