Chapter 19

The news of the DeLuca empire’s sudden, catastrophic collapse dominated global financial networks. The spectacular implosion of one of Chicago’s oldest dynasties, fueled by rumors of illegal adoptions and gross financial fraud, was a cinematic spectacle. Anthony and Carmen DeLuca were facing federal indictments, their assets frozen, their toxic legacy burning in the wake of their son's vengeance.

Thousands of miles away, in the quiet, snow-covered serenity of the Swiss Alps, Michael DeLuca sat by the roaring fireplace of the chalet. He watched the news broadcast on a muted television screen, feeling absolutely no remorse. The anger that had been a raging inferno inside him had finally burned itself out, leaving behind a profound, quiet peace.

Renee walked into the room, holding a freshly drawn picture. She wore a warm, oversized sweater, her big expressive eyes bright and happy. She no longer looked like the terrified, heartbroken child scrubbing greasy plates in a massive, industrial-grade kitchen.

"Daddy, look!" Renee smiled, holding up the drawing. It was a picture of a mountain, a cabin, and two stick figures holding hands.

Michael smiled—a genuine, warm expression that completely erased his terrifying, protective presence. He knelt down, pulling her into a gentle hug.

"It’s beautiful, sweetheart," Michael whispered, kissing her cheek. "I love it."

"Are we staying here forever?" Renee asked, looking out the massive glass windows at the falling snow.

"We can stay here as long as you want," Michael promised, his deep voice incredibly soft. "We have all the time in the world."

Marcus stepped into the room, respectfully keeping his distance. "Boss. David just called. The federal injunctions against Anthony and Carmen are secure. They won't be able to afford a decent lawyer, let alone a retrieval team. The threat is completely neutralized."

"Thank you, Marcus," Michael said, standing up and resting a hand on Renee’s shoulder. "Tell David to begin liquidating my remaining personal assets in Chicago. I want all ties to that city severed permanently. We are not going back."

Marcus nodded slowly. "Understood, Mr. DeLuca. It’s a clean break."
