Chapter 12

Family court did not remove Lulu from Dominic permanently.

It also did not return everything to normal.

Normal had failed.

Lulu remained primarily with Dominic under a structured safety order.

Grace became her court-recognized standby guardian and life-history advocate.

The independent trustee managed Natalia’s trust.

Lulu’s image could not be used in charity materials without court approval and age-appropriate consent.

No public birthday campaigns.

No staged grief.

No smiling for donors.

Dominic’s home changed.

Fewer staff.

No family council in rooms Lulu used.

No armed men near her bedroom.

No adults discussing business at meals.

No photographer without asking Lulu first.

The first time someone asked whether she wanted a picture, Lulu said:

“No.”

The room obeyed.

She looked surprised.

That surprise broke Dominic more than the court order.

A child should not be shocked that no means no.

Therapy helped slowly.

Lulu stopped wearing crowns for a while.

Then one day she put on a paper one at school.

She told Dominic:

“This one doesn’t belong to Aunt Marcella.”

He answered:

“No. It belongs to you.”

That was the right sentence.

For once, he found it in time.
