Chapter 11 - Reena’s First Visit

The children had supervised contact with Reena after two weeks.
Drew did not want to go.
Court/agency did not simply drag him.
Therapist consulted.
First visit shortened.
Lily asked for Mom.
Important.
Children can fear and miss same person.
At the center Reena cried when she saw them.
Lily ran toward her.
Drew stayed near supervisor.
Reena hugged Lily.
Then looked at Drew.
“Come here.”
He shook his head.
Her face tightened.
Supervisor intervened:
“Let him choose.”
Reena looked hurt.
Then sat.
Good.
For thirty minutes they colored.
Lily climbed into her lap.
Drew eventually handed her a blue crayon.
No apology speech.
At end Reena said:
“I love you.”
Drew asked:
“Are we going home?”
She answered:
“I hope soon.”
The supervisor corrected gently:
“Adults are still deciding.”
Reena became angry afterward.
Not in front of children.
She told her lawyer:
“They’re teaching him I’m dangerous.”
No.
Drew had experience.
Professionals were teaching him he could say no.
