Chapter 25 - The Basement House

Reena eventually sold the house.
Not court-ordered as symbolism.
She could not afford it after legal costs and reduced income.
An ordinary sale.
Before closing, child protection no longer needed property.
I asked Drew whether he wanted to see basement one last time.
Therapist had suggested only if he requested.
He said no.
Good.
Lily said:
“Can I?”
Drew immediately:
“No.”
I stopped him.
“Her choice.”
Lily thought.
Then:
“No.”
Done.
We did not go.
The room did not need confrontation.
The house belonged to strangers later.
They probably repainted.
Maybe storage room became office.
I hoped so.
Places do not remain evil.
People carry meanings.
May you like
