Chapter 13 - Aaron’s Cloud Folder

Aaron left no secret manifesto.
He did leave a folder in his cloud drive named:
KIDS.
His estate account became accessible through the executor after legal approval.
Inside:
Photographs.
Dates.
Notes.
Not perfectly organized.
One photo of Drew’s upper-arm bruising.
Caption:
After Reena grabbed him at basement door. Drew says she squeezed. 3/14.
Another:
Basement lock receipt.
Another:
Screenshot of search for family-law attorneys.
A draft chronology.
And one audio note to himself:
“If Pete won’t believe me, I need somebody who will.”
I stopped listening there.
Later finished.
Aaron said:
“I yell. I know I yell. Reena has videos. Fine. I punched wall. Fine. But I’m not hurting them. She puts them downstairs until they apologize. Drew peed in bucket. I found it. She says he’s lying.”
His voice shook.
Then:
“I should’ve acted sooner.”
There.
Even Aaron was not spotless.
He had tolerated it.
Argued instead of leaving.
Why?
He feared custody.
Reena threatened to say he was violent.
He had damaged drywall.
She had photographs.
He believed court would side with her.
Maybe.
Maybe not.
Fear delayed him.
Same theme.
Adults delay because consequences of acting feel uncertain.

Children experience consequence of delay as present reality.
