Chapter 9 - Why Elena came to the cabin

Elena’s lawyer initially claimed:
She went to the cabin to recover “family property.”
Crowbar?
She expected locked door.
Why force entry?
“She believed Adrian was destroying evidence favorable to her.”
No.
Phone records later showed:
She had been calling Vanessa repeatedly.
Seven calls after lawyer meeting.
Vanessa answered twice.
What did they discuss?
Vanessa eventually cooperated enough to say:
“Elena wanted to know whether the note was still inside the bear.”
So Elena knew about a second note?
She knew Claire had hidden a “blue paper.”
Not exact text.
Months earlier, Claire confronted Elena.
Claire reportedly said:
“If anything happens to my copies, Adrian will know where to look.”
Elena saw Sophie holding teddy.
Suspected.
After USB surfaced, she panicked.
At the cabin, she wanted both.
USB.
Bear.
Did she intend to hurt me?
She raised a crowbar.
Police body-worn audio captured me repeatedly ordering her to lower it.
Sophie appearing changed her behavior.
Elena set it down before officers reached hallway.
Prosecutors charged:
Felony burglary.
Attempted evidence tampering.
Aggravated menacing/threat offense.
Not attempted murder.
No injury.
Then Sophie.
She believed Elena came to “take Mommy.”
Therapist corrected carefully.
“Elena wanted things your mother left.”
May you like
“Same.”
To Sophie, maybe.
