Chapter 2 - The Teddy Bear Claire Left Behind

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Adrian took Noah inside.
Vanessa was not allowed near him.
Not that night.
Not until Adrian understood what had happened.
His housekeeper, Maria, helped Noah into clean pajamas while Adrian called his attorney and the pediatrician.
Then he returned to the teddy bear.
Maria saw it.
Her expression softened.
“Claire bought that.”
Adrian looked up.
“What?”
“Noah’s mother.”
Claire.
Adrian’s late wife.
She had died eighteen months earlier after a sudden illness.
Noah had barely been two.
Adrian remembered the teddy.
Blue.
Too expensive for a stuffed animal.
Claire had ordered it before Noah was born.
“She called it Bear Watch,” Maria said.
Adrian frowned.
“Why?”
“She worried about nannies.”
Maria hesitated.
“Claire had a camera installed.”
Adrian stared.
“You knew?”
“Only when Noah was a baby. I assumed it stopped working years ago.”
That explained the lens.
But not Vanessa’s panic.
Adrian examined the bear carefully.
A small internal battery.
Memory card.
Older wireless module.
Maria whispered, “Does it still work?”
“I’m going to find out.”
His attorney, Rebecca Sloan, arrived before midnight.
She stopped Adrian from touching anything else.
“Photograph it first.”
He did.
Then the memory card was copied.
Rebecca opened the files on a clean laptop.
Dozens of short clips.
Motion activated.
Most were recent.
Adrian felt sick.
The first showed Noah playing alone in the nursery.
The second showed Vanessa entering.
She took away his toy.
Noah began crying.
Vanessa leaned down.
“Stop that.”
Next clip.
Vanessa grabbed Noah’s plate and dumped his dinner into the trash.
“You can eat when you learn manners.”
Adrian’s hands tightened.
Another clip.
Noah standing in a hallway.
Vanessa pointing toward the wall.
“Face it.”
He stood there crying.
For twenty-three minutes.
Then another.
Another.
Another.
None graphic.
All cruel.
Small punishments.
Isolation.
Food withheld.
Toys taken.
Fear used as obedience.
Adrian had been working.
Traveling.
Trusting her.
Then Rebecca paused one clip.
Vanessa was kneeling beside Noah.
“You don’t tell Daddy.”
Noah sniffled.
“Why?”
“Because Daddy will be sad.”
Adrian looked away.
Rebecca touched the keyboard.
“There are more.”
A final folder appeared.
Its name:
BEHAVIOR LOG.
Adrian frowned.
The teddy had not created that folder automatically.
Someone had copied files onto the card.
Then one video opened.
Vanessa sat beside another person.
Only a man’s arm was visible.
He said—
“We need enough incidents before Adrian signs the care plan.”
Adrian froze.
“What care plan?”
Rebecca looked at him.
“I think we just found the real reason this started.”

👉 The camera hadn’t only recorded Vanessa punishing Noah—it had captured her discussing a plan Adrian had never heard of.
