Chapter 15 - The general manager

Dominic reported to Bellweather general manager Paul Wexler.

Fifty-four.

Twenty-five years in luxury hotels.

He denied knowing about DCH payments.

Evidence supported that.

He did know about frequent Sofia relocations.

He had approved broad revenue goals.

He had dismissed Julia’s concern.

Why?

“Dominic delivered.”

There.

Paul said:

“I thought the foundation contract allowed flexibility.”

It did.

“Did you verify the billing?”

“No.”

“Did you know families were being moved during convention weeks?”

“Yes.”

“Did you ask whether they consented?”

“No.”

There.

Management failure.

Not theft.

The operator suspended Paul during review.

He later returned in a reduced regional advisory role? Maybe not.

Eventually he resigned as GM under a negotiated departure.

No criminal charge.

Different responsibility.
