Chapter 5 - The first thing Ethan said
The audio began in a hallway.
Ethan was speaking on speakerphone.
Male voice:
“You promised three failures before the board review.”
Ethan:
“I gave you two.”
Voice:
“Two that looked accidental.”
Ethan:
“That was the point.”
Voice:
“The valuation barely moved.”
Then footsteps.
Ethan:
“Next one will.”
Lily whispered into her phone:
“Dad should hear this.”
Then Ethan noticed her.
“What are you doing?”
Lily:
“Nothing.”
“Give me that.”
“No.”
“What did you record?”
“Nothing.”
Then the audio became chaotic.
Running.
A door closing.
Ethan yelling.
Lily crying.
The belt did not appear immediately.
First he tried to grab the device.
Then he smashed it against the corner of a table.
