Chapter 7 - Two strange breaches

Six weeks earlier, one of our commercial clients experienced a security failure.
A luxury residential tower.
A temporary digital credential opened a service entrance at 2:17 a.m.
Two men entered.
Stole jewelry from an unoccupied penthouse.
No one injured.
Our internal investigation blamed:
Credential expiration malfunction.
Three weeks later:
A logistics warehouse.
Another temporary credential remained valid after scheduled deactivation.
Intruders entered.
Stole high-end electronics.
Again:
No violence.
Our engineers were embarrassed.
I demanded fixes.
Insurance covered client losses subject to negotiations.
Industry press reported both events.
One analyst reviewing our secondary transaction lowered his internal valuation assumptions slightly.
At the time, I called that reasonable.
Now Lily’s recording contained:
May you like
“You promised three failures.”
My stomach turned.
