Chapter 13 - Daniel says it was accounting sloppiness

Daniel came to my lawyer’s office.
Without Bethany.
He looked exhausted.
“Michael, I screwed up.”
“How much?”
“I don’t know.”
“Try.”
“Maybe fifty grand in bad classifications.”
The eventual number was much higher.
I asked:
“Why use Anna’s foundation?”
He looked down.
“Cash flow.”
Northfield had expanded too quickly.
Equipment leases.
Employees.
An office.
Daniel started letting the foundation absorb expenses he promised himself he would correct later.
Then later became:
Never.
He said:
“I was going to repay it.”
“When?”
Silence.
“Before or after Rosie found out?”
His face changed.
May you like
“She didn’t find out.”
“She found enough.”
