Chapter 6 - Why Daniel’s phone was recording

Daniel was thirty-eight.
My younger brother.
Bethany’s husband.
He recorded family events obsessively.
Birthdays.
Christmas.
Thanksgiving.
Anything involving cake.
His explanation was simple:
“Our grandparents never filmed anything. Half our childhood disappeared.”
Fair.
Before Rosie’s party, he propped his phone horizontally against a flower arrangement.
The recording was supposed to capture:
Candles.
Cake.
People singing.
Instead it captured nearly forty minutes after everyone forgot it existed.
Including:
My father throwing the glass.
My mother’s reaction.
Bethany’s comments.

And several conversations that took place after I left.
Those later conversations changed everything.
