Chapter 17 - My punch

My own case was simpler than my anger wanted it to be.
Video showed:
I saw Rosie injured.
I confronted Bethany.
Rosie was moved away.
Then I punched Bethany.
No immediate defense-of-child justification at that second.
I entered misdemeanor diversion.
Anger-management counseling.
Community service.
No new violent offense.
Successful completion:
Dismissal.
My counselor asked:
“What did Rosie see?”
“Me defending her.”
He said:
“She saw you believe her. That happened before the punch.”
I stayed quiet.
Then:
“The punch taught a different lesson.”
He was right.

I hated that.
Still right.
