Chapter 11 - Sabine Learns I Found Nora

I had met Nora three days before the fairground party.
Public place.
Lawyers aware.
No secret bargain.
I told her:
“I’m marrying Sabine.”
Nora looked down.
“I know.”
“She wants Elodie to move into my house.”
“I know.”
“Do you consent?”
“No.”
Clear.
“Does Elodie know?”
“She knows Sabine talks about it.”
“What do you want?”
Nora took time.
“Contact enforced.”
Not:
Give me my daughter tomorrow.
“An independent evaluation that isn’t controlled by Sabine’s therapist.”
Reasonable.
“And for Elodie to stop being told I abandoned her.”
That was it.
Nora did not ask me for money.
Did not threaten Sabine.
Did not want media.
She wanted the custody process reopened before relocation.
I agreed to provide truthful information about my household and engagement if subpoenaed or requested through counsel.
Nothing more.
Then I told Sabine at the fairground:
“I found your daughter’s mother.”
The words were deliberately sharp.
But legally, they were also a correction.
Elodie was not a motherless child waiting for Sabine to install her into a new family.
Her mother was alive.
Present.
May you like
Imperfect.
Trying.
