Chapter 20 - Wren and Elodie Meet Without Sabine

Months passed before Wren met Elodie again.

Neutral setting.

A museum café.

Nora brought Elodie.

I brought Wren.

No Sabine.

No Colton.

Wren was nervous.

“So she not taking my room?”

“No.”

“Why would she?”

“Sabine said new family.”

“Sabine said many things.”

Fair.

Elodie arrived holding Nora’s hand.

Wren stared.

Elodie said:

“Hi.”

“Hi.”

Awkward.

Then Wren asked:

“Do you like Ferris wheels?”

I almost choked.

Elodie said:

“No.”

“Good.”

They found common ground through dislike.

Children are efficient.

They talked about school.

Dogs.

A cartoon.

Neither called the other sister.

No one forced it.

At the end, Wren said:

“Bye, Elodie.”

Elodie:

May you like

“Bye.”

Enough.
