Chapter 10 - the bloodline in the light

Three months later, a warm summer breeze blew gently across the manicured lawns of the Cole estate in Connecticut.
The dark clouds that had shadowed the family for five long years were completely cleared. The traitors had been brought to justice, the Cole family empire was clean and prosperous, and peace had finally returned to the estate.
In the sunlit garden behind the main house, three-year-old Nora ran happily across the green grass in a new pale-blue summer dress, her long blonde curls bouncing under a yellow bow as she chased a small golden retriever puppy Adrian had bought for her birthday.
Her bright, joyful laughter echoed across the quiet grounds—a sound that filled every corner of the estate with warmth.
Sitting at a white wrought-iron table on the stone terrace were Adrian and Emma.
Emma wore an elegant cream silk dress, her brown-blonde hair flowing loose over her shoulders, her fair skin glowing in the afternoon sun. She looked beautiful, radiant, and completely free of the terror that had guarded her face for years.
Adrian sat beside her, wearing a simple white linen dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, revealing his heavy black tattoos under the warm sun. He reached out, gently taking Emma's hand in his broad, warm palm.
"What are you thinking about, Emma?" Adrian asked softly, his dark eyes filled with deep, unshakeable warmth.
Emma looked out at Nora playing on the lawn, then turned her soft brown eyes to him. "I was thinking about how much James would have loved seeing her like this. Safe. Happy."
"James is here," Adrian murmured gently, looking down at the silver lighter resting on the table beside them. "He brought you and Nora home to me."
Emma smiled warmly, leaning in to place a gentle kiss on his cheek—a sweet, quiet gesture that promised a lifetime of shared devotion.
Suddenly, Marcus walked out onto the stone terrace, carrying a thick, wax-sealed envelope delivered by a private courier from Italy.
Marcus handed the envelope to Adrian, his face calm but focused. "Boss. This just arrived from the private legal office in Florence."
Adrian broke the heavy red wax seal and pulled out a single sheet of heavy parchment written in fine Italian calligraphy.
He read the lines written across the paper, a quiet, subtle smile touching his rugged features as he looked at Emma.
Written on the parchment were only two sentences:
To Adrian Cole: The legal deeds for the Tuscany estate are fully registered under Nora's name. But your late brother's secondary trust in Rome has just been claimed by an unknown beneficiary.
Emma looked at Adrian, her brows furrowing slightly with curiosity. "Adrian? What is it?"
May you like
Adrian slowly folded the parchment, placed it into his pocket, and gently squeezed her hand, looking out toward the horizon where the sun was beginning to set over the hills.
"It seems James left us one more secret to find, my love," Adrian whispered softly into the warm summer breeze. "Pack your bags. We're going to Italy."
