Chapter 5 - My father had warned me once

Three months before the restaurant incident, Augusto asked:
“How much money have you put into Kane Urban?”
I said:
“Some.”
“How much?”
“Dad.”
“How much?”
“About half a million.”
He stared.
“Your money?”
“Joint.”
“Joint funded from what?”
I became defensive.
“My marriage is not a board meeting.”
He said:
“No. Board meetings have minutes.”
I laughed then.
Mistake.
He continued:
“Cambria, if you invest in his company, invest as an investor. Paper. Terms. Equity. Loan documents. Do not pour household money into a hole because your husband calls it support.”
“He’s not asking for my shares.”
“Not yet.”
I got angry.
“You think every man wants Renaldi money.”
“No.”
Then:
“I think debt changes what people believe they deserve.”
I walked out.
Three months later, Wesley kicked a table because I refused $850,000.
