Chapter 19 - His plea

Aloysius ultimately did not take the entire case to trial.
He pleaded guilty to:
One felony count related to intentional interference with newborn identification/patient safety.
One misdemeanor child-assault count involving Caius.
A separate endangerment count was dismissed under plea agreement.
He admitted:
He knowingly moved another newborn into my room.
He tampered with identification.
He intended hospital staff to record me interacting with the wrong infant as though she were mine.
He struck Caius after Caius threatened to reveal what he had seen.
The judge asked:
“Did you intend to keep the other infant?”
“No.”
“Did you understand your conduct could cause both infants to receive care under incorrect identities?”
Long silence.
“Yes.”
That was the part his plan never accounted for.
