Chapter 20 - Dorian’s criminal plea negotiations

The prosecutor offered:
Plea to one felony forgery count.
Dismiss remaining attempted-use count.
Recommendation:
Probation with a short custodial component possible depending sentencing.
Dorian hesitated.
His lawyer believed trial might win on:
Whether a private draft qualified under exact forgery statute.
But the signature misuse itself was strong.
Then he did something he had avoided for years.
He accepted responsibility.
Plea:
One felony false-instrument/forgery offense.
One misdemeanor identity misuse count.
He admitted:
“I placed Morwenna’s copied signature on documents describing a parenting agreement she had not accepted.”
The judge asked:
“Why?”
Dorian answered:
“I was afraid my mother would cut me off if my wife left with our child.”
The judge said:
“That explains pressure. It does not create consent.”
Sentencing scheduled later.
