My own case resolved separately.
I had slapped Agatha after Benson was already on the floor and no longer being struck.
Pretrial diversion.
Conflict-management class.
Community service.
No new offense.
Dismissal after successful completion.
At class, the facilitator asked:
“What were you trying to accomplish?”
“Make her feel what she did.”
“So retaliation.”
“Yes.”
“Did it help Benson?”
“No.”
That was unpleasant.
True.
Later I told Benson:
“I should have protected you without hitting Grandma after you were already safe.”
He asked:
“Was she bad?”
“She did something wrong.”
“Were you bad?”
“I did something wrong too.”
He thought about it.
Then:
“Daddy?”
I waited.
“He did bad too?”
May you like
“Yes.”
